This is today's question.
- Were you affected by the gulf war?
- By that I mean, was anyone in your family active in the Gulf War?
- If so, how did their being active at that time affect you personally?
- What Branch of the service were they or you in at the time?
By answering this question you can let your ancestors know how this war had an affect on your life. If you were in the armed forces at the time, tell what it was like to be in the service during the time of war. If you had family members in the service at that time tell how you felt when they were away, how often you were able to contact them. Were you newlyweds? Did you have small children that missed their parent? What was day to day like with them away? Did you live on a base or off base at the time? Did you have a circle of friends that also had husbands in the war? This is the time to write down how you felt about that time in your life to preserve it for future generations. Hopefully they will never know what it is like to live in a war time, but if they do maybe some of the things you write down will help them to get through that time for them.
Other than being very aware of the sacrifices that these men and women gave at this time I didn't have any family directly involved in the Gulf war. In my line of work though I did come across a lot of young women with husbands serving and hearing their stories of the days that their husbands came home were inspiring. Hearing about what the wives had given up for our country, with their husbands away, even though the wives didn't formally serve they really did. We sometimes forget that the families of these service men and women give up a great deal at no choice of their own.
