This is today's question.

  • Have any of your relatives ever been in the military?
  • If so which branch?
  • What was their rank?
  • How long did they serve?
  • Where did they serve?
  • Did they retire from the service?

This is a great question to ask your family members, you probably know that they were in the service, but do you know anything about their rank, where they served, did they serve during a war, were they injured? All of these are great ways to learn more about that family member.

My oldest brother served in the Marines during the Vietnam war. I know of one story that took him decades to be able to talk about that happened during that time. I'll talk to him about it again and this time write down what happened so that I can pass it on to the family. I want to be sure I get the story right and not try to remember what I was told many years ago. I have a nephew that served as well. I don't know much about his service other than he did retire from the service I was told. Sounds like a good way to connect to them both.

I also have lots of ancestors that were in the service. At least one that served in the American Revolution. So now I need to pull together that information as well.

I finished a few new items for my web site yesterday but have only added one to the site so far. It's not a family tree item but still family related. It's a gift for your child's teacher for their end of the year party. This one shows the teacher's name, their class name, the school and year along with all of the students. While teachers aren't part of your family they are part of your child's growing up. So this one can either be used as a gift for a teacher or as a piece of wall art for your child's room to show which class they were in and the other students for their records. Starting at just $15 with free shipping it's an economical gift for any child or teacher.

Here's the form to fill in for today's question.
