Are you thinking, "I need a great but unique gift for a friend or family member's teenager. How am I going to find that in the sea that is the internet, what do teenagers even like?". Well, look no further. This "Teenager's Family Tree Workbook" will be the one gift that the teenager uses throughout his or her life. As the teenager grows, they will have reason to sit with their relatives compiling information for their workbook about their ancestors lives. They will spend hours on end in meaningful conversation about the their ancestry. Is there a better way to connect with your teenager than by telling your stories of family members, or having them listen to stories from their relatives? These full color pages will help them to understand the family relationships they have.
The soft cover book includes pages for the teenager, their parents, their grandparents and their great grandparents as well as extended family of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, First Cousins once removed, and Second Cousins. Believe it or not I'm sure that they know some of these family members but don't know how the relationship actually works.
What makes this book different than others?
Each book is handmade specifically for that teenager. These are not mass produced books. Every portion of this book, from the printing of pages and covers, to the binding, it's all done in house.
First as mentioned before it's printed with every page in full color. This shows the quality of the workbook. It's never too young to understand the dynamics of your family and to start jotting down stories about your family members so that you can look back when you are older on these wonderful nuggets of information.
Each page is an 11" x 15.5" sheet of 32 lb 98 brightness white paper folded in half to make a fold out sheet for each person. Now this might not mean much but most of the other workbooks are 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" which is half the size of this workbook. Also the pages being 32 lb text means that when you write on the page it feels wonderful to your hand and pen. You won't get bleed through when using a pen. Although I suggest using pencil for the workbook as you might have to make changes later on. With the pages being 11" x 15.5" folded to 8" x 11" this means you have lots of room to write down information. It won't get all cramped up on a tiny little page.
Every time the teenager goes to a family gathering they are most likely wondering how these people are related to them. They may not voice that question, but it's there. I remember the first time I finally got the nerve to ask my father how someone was related to us. So it does start pretty early with the inquisitiveness of family relationships.
The best thing about having a workbook for this information is that when it comes time to pass this down to the next generation they will cherish the fact that this was done in the teenager's own handwriting, advancing through their ages. Nothing is more connecting than seeing the person's own words in their own handwriting about their family. I have a book from my grandmother that sits on my desk, and I look at it almost every day to see what she has written. There are stories about family that she got by calling her family and asking about them or writing them letters. I can only imagine the great long talks and connection she had with her family gathering this information.
The overall book is 8" x 11" with a 120lb 98 bright white card cover personalized with the teenager's name. It's twin loop wire-o bound so that the cover wraps the book and the spine shows the teenager's name as well for ease in finding on a bookshelf. This means that it's a soft cover book, but will lay flat for writing.
